Newsletter: December 2023

Ryan Laster

Good afternoon, Panther family,

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving break spending time with friends and family. Thank you to our CA Parents Auxiliary and all the volunteers who made our Thanksgiving feast a big success again this year.

Join us tomorrow at break at 9:50 in the high school lobby as senior Mackenzie Mercer signs with Delta State University’s cross country program. We are very proud of Mackenzie and her dedication to her sport.

Basketball season is in full swing. On December 8, our basketball program will participate in the “Teddy Bear Toss” at halftime of the varsity girls game against Carroll Academy. Canton and Carroll fans are asked to bring any size NEW stuffed animal and toss it on the court. All donated stuffed animals will be delivered to Blair E. Batson Children’s Hospital patients as part of their Christmas celebration. Come out and support our teams during their regular season games and at our annual Christmas tournament December 27-29.

Congratulations to our football players who were selected by the MAIS for the 2023 Futures and All Star teams. MAIS All Stars are seniors Jaheim Blackmon, Chris Hunter, Cooper Lampkin and Jessie Primer. MAIS Futures are juniors Sawyer Bates and Cruz Johnson and sophomore J.D. Kelly. Support these players at the Futures and All Star games this week. Futures will play Thursday (11/30) night at 6:30 at MRA. All Stars will play Friday (12/1) at 2:00 at Jackson Prep.

The deadline to order your Holiday Hustle t-shirt is this Friday, December 1. The annual Canton Academy Holiday Hustle 5k walk/run will take place on Thursday, December 14 at 6:00 pm. This is a fun family activity with participants from all over the state. There is still time to register at msracetiming.com. You can participate as a “Spirit Runner” in order to receive a Holiday Hustle t-shirt with this year’s new design. December 14 is Holiday Hustle t-shirt day. Students may wear their Holiday Hustle t-shirt to school that day and on any CA dress down day.

We will be out of school this Friday (Dec.1) in order for our administration and staff to attend the MAIS Educators Conference.

The Canton Ducks Unlimited Fall Dinner Banquet will take place on the historic Canton square at Sterling Hall on Thursday, December 7 at 6:00 pm. Please contact Scott Forrest for information at 662-417-2412.

Don’t miss our 1st through 6th grade Christmas program on December 8 at 9:00 am in the gym. K3-6th grades will dismiss at 11:15 that day.

As you can see, we have a busy few weeks ahead of us. We are looking forward to a strong finish with lots of learning left to do in 2023. As we approach the busyness of the season with field trips, exams, sporting events, gift shopping and parties, we encourage you to remember that “the most wonderful time of the year” is called such because it is the celebration of the birth of our Savior. Take some time each day to read the Gospels or take part in an Advent devotional.

Have a blessed day,

Ryan Laster
