Newsletter: November 2023

The Canton Academy Parents Auxiliary did a great job hosting our annual Harvest Festival on October 10 and on October 20 drew a new golf cart winner, Margaret Wehr, after a successful raffle this year.

After a fun season for the Lady Panther softball team where our girls finished 2nd in the district and had a good run in the North State Tournament, we are already looking forward to the 2024 season and just installed a new scoreboard on the softball field. Our cross-country teams finished 2nd (girls) and 5th (boys) in the state meet on October 23. The football team finished the regular season 7-3 and district champs for the third year in a row. The team moves on to the second round of playoffs vs. Indianola Academy hosted at CA this Friday at 7:00 pm. Mr. Tim Busch started the new CA chess team this year, and they competed with a great showing for the first time ever to participate in the MAIS Chess Tournament on October 26. Our clay shooting team has had a great season and competes at McIvor Shooting Facility in Sardis on November 1. Our girls’ basketball team has been competing well in preseason tournaments and the boys begin play late November/early December.

The on-campus ACT was hosted on October 17 when all juniors and many sophomores and seniors took the test. We are excited that our ACT scores have been on the uptick, and we anticipate that trend will continue. The last national ACT test date is December 9, and Friday, November 3 is the last day to register. Please be aware that the December score is, for many universities, the last score they will accept for applying freshmen. The next on-campus ACT will be held at CA in March.

Each week, our students attend chapel on Wednesday mornings, and it has always been a special time for everyone to refocus on what matters most. CA invites impactful speakers for chapel, and this year has been no exception. Students have been able to hear from Coach Art Jones with Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Dr. Jay Cook of 3:16 Church, Reverend Bobo Phillipson, Brother David Lowery, Jason Holmes of FBC Madison, Mrs. Alison Martin and more. Dean Sykes with Go Tell America spoke to high school students on October 18 and invited them to The Awakening Youth Night that night at the Brandon Amphitheater where over 8000 students were in attendance including dozens of CA Panthers!

Our National Honor Society officers attended the annual NHS Leadership Conference on October 30. The National Honor Society induction ceremony will take place on November 8 at 10:00 am in the high school auditorium.

The annual CA Holiday Hustle 5k run/walk is taking place during the Canton Christmas Festival of Lights on December 14 at 6pm. Register to participate at msracetiming.com and get your Holiday Hustle t-shirt which can be worn to school on race day.

We are looking forward to our upcoming elementary programs and Thanksgiving feast. Thanks to everyone who has helped make our first semester a great one. Let’s keep working hard and have a strong finish for 2023.
