The second term of the semester is going well following a well-deserved fall break. We hope you and your family enjoyed some down time during our first ever five-day break during October. We have had a busy fall with much more to come in the next six weeks leading up to exams. Please help us remind students to stay the course as we quickly enter the end of 2024.
Our Lady Panther softball team competed at the MSAIS north half tournament and defeated Kirk Academy (8-2) and Manchester (9-0), eventually advancing to the state tournament in Magee on October 5. The girls worked hard all season, and as always, we are very proud of the Lady Panthers! Congratulations to our 2024 MAIS Softball All Stars, Gates Welch and Amelia Rose Cook and to Kaitlyn Warren on being selected to the 2024 MAIS Futures Team.
In October, we had dozens of high school students attend the MSAIS ACT workshop as part of their preparation for anticipated ACT tests, including our on campus ACT which was Tuesday, October 29. Our ACT scores have been on a steady uptick, and any ACT prep available has proven to make a big difference. We encourage students to sign up for the last national ACT test date of 2024 coming up on December 14 (registration deadline is November 8). Many colleges do not take ACT scores after December for entering freshmen applications.
Our cross country team has done well this season. The team hosted the annual Canton Academy Invitational at the Country Club of Canton during fall break. On Monday, October 28, the Panthers competed in the MSAIS State Meet. Our girls finished as runners up in the state meet and the boys came in third. Way to go, Panthers!
The Panther clay shooting team competed in the Mississippi Scholastic Shooting Program tournament in October and will take part in the MAIS State Tournament on November 6 at Turcotte. We are proud of this co-ed team and encourage any interested 7th -12th grade girls or boys to join next year’s program.
The chess team will compete on Wednesday, November 6 at the MAIS Chess Tournament at the Clyde Muse Center. The team is growing, and we encourage students to join. Practice is on Wednesday afternoons, and the team competes in tournaments at least once a month.
On October 15 CAPA hosted the annual Harvest Festival which was a fun night for our students, parents and friends. On October 18, CAPA’s golf cart raffle drawing was held at halftime of the varsity game. Faithful longtime patron, Mr. Ken Morris’s ticket was drawn as the 2024 golf cart winner. CAPA truly appreciates everyone who helped with the Harvest Festival, baked items for the cake walk, bought and sold golf cart tickets this year, or helped in any way. Congratulations, Mr. Morris, on your new golf cart!
Basketball season began in October with our preseason girls tournament. Our varsity girls traveled to Indianola this week for the IA Preseason Tournament. Check out the 2024-2025 basketball schedule attached, and come support your Panther basketball teams.
Our junior high football team competed in the district championship against Indianola Academy and persevered as District Champs! They had a great season. We are also proud of our elementary team and their efforts this year. They are small but mighty, and we are excited about the future of Panther football!
Congratulations to our varsity Panthers on winning the district title for the fourth year in a row. Join us on Friday, November 8 as we host the 2nd round of playoffs when the Panthers take on the winners of the first round (November 1). Please remember that ALL patrons, students and staff have to pay for gate entry during playoffs. No CA all sports passes are accepted.
Also on November 8, CA first graders will present the First Grade Patriotic Play in the high school auditorium at 9:30 am. These students have been working hard practicing their parts just in time for Veterans Day.
On Wednesday, November 13 we will celebrate National Honor Society induction for new members. There will be a small reception immediately following the ceremony for all members.
Don’t forget to purchase CA Booster Club 20 Guns in 10 Days Gun Raffle tickets (see attached information). We want to thank the CA Business Office as well as the Board of Directors for their part in the financial audit that was performed by Carr Riggs Ingram CPA firm. This process is essential in maintaining accurate and concise financial records for the future success of our school. As with any audit, this was a very comprehensive review of the financial records and internal controls of our school. As always, a special thank you is owed to our dedicated CAPA officers, Booster Club officers, Board of Directors and parent volunteers who make our faculty, staff, and administration feel appreciated and supported every day. Our fun activities, faculty treats and successful fundraisers would not happen without all of you.
